Just because you can do something doesn’t mean that you should.

If you haven’t said these words to any of your children … you are truly blessed.

You probably haven’t screamed frantically at your four-year-old to remove her hand from her eye after you discover she has “accidentally” taken the scissors to her eyelashes.

You don’t know what it’s like to have your child walk around making the sounds of the Millennium Falcon during class in the third grade.

You may not know what it’s like to have your ten-year-old son ask your kind visitor why his belly is so fat.

And you probably don’t know what it’s like to have your extremely intelligent teenage son bust out the words “pechos grandes” in the middle of high school Spanish class. (Feel free to look it up. You might even get a little chuckle out of it.)

While all of these things force you to think on your feet, they also humble you to the point that wearing onesie pajamas to the grocery store doesn’t faze you at all.

You probably curse and smirk at your own words ringing in your ears … “Just because you can figure out inappropriate words in Spanish, it doesn’t mean you should share them aloud in front of your Spanish teacher and the entire class.”

Yep. We are able to do many, many things throughout our lives, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that we should do all of those things.

Just because middle-aged women are able to wear stirrup pants from their glory days in high school, it doesn’t mean they should. See?

With all of that in mind, we’re going to throw out another question that many people want to know the answer to …

Can a Person Get Dentures for Just Their Back Teeth?

The short answer is yes. Yes, you are absolutely able to purchase dentures for only your back teeth. They are available. And it is possible for you to purchase them.

There are two basic types of dentures: full/complete dentures and partial dentures. If you are missing teeth at the back of your mouth and want to replace them so you can chew again, you would use a partial denture.

Full dentures replace all of your teeth. Partial dentures replace a portion of your teeth. Because you are not missing all of your teeth, you don’t need to have all of your teeth pulled to accommodate full dentures.

The dentist will take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab where your partials will be created. The lab will strive to match the shade of your teeth and gums.

Partial dentures will attach to the teeth sitting alongside the tooth gap. They will clip on with an acrylic or metal clasp. Your dentist may do a few fittings to make sure they are sitting correctly.

Meanwhile, you’ll need to adjust to the dentures. To your brain, the dentures feel like a foreign object. You’ll have more saliva produced in your mouth, so you might spit a little more. You may even gag.

It will probably take you several days or as much as a few weeks to adjust to wearing your dentures. As you’re adjusting, you’ll also need to begin a regular cleaning routine.

Your partials will need to be removed, soaked in an appropriate denture solution, then scrubbed with the proper denture cleaner and denture brush every single day. You cannot skip your routine.

So, to answer the question, yes. Yes, you can get partial dentures.

Now, we’re going to ask a much better, more helpful question. This is the question you really want to ask. Ready? Here we go ...

Should You Get Partial Dentures to Replace Your Back Teeth?

The more appropriate question is not whether you can get dentures for your back teeth, it is to determine whether or not you should get dentures for your back teeth.

So should you take the plunge, pull any unhealthy back teeth, and get fitted for partial dentures to replace those back teeth?

No.

Absolutely not.

Don’t do it. Do not spend money on partial dentures to replace your back teeth.

We will never counsel anyone to put dentures in their mouth. There are just some things you should never do … Getting dentures is one of those things.

If you are missing teeth, you are at risk for bone loss. Within the first year of missing teeth, you can lose up to a quarter of your bone in that area.

Bones in our jaw structure are stimulated to continue generating and remaining strong because of our diet and the act of chewing. When we bite down and crunch on food, it stimulates that bone attached to the roots of the teeth.

We need that stimulation delivered straight from the connective tissue of the tooth root via chewing to prevent bone loss.

So when the teeth are missing, there are no teeth present to encourage the bone to remain healthy. This means that when you have unhealthy teeth pulled, you are automatically at risk for bone loss and continued deterioration.

Dentures allow for further deterioration of that bone because there is no longer anything attached directly to the bone to stimulate it. Dentures just cover up the gaps of your missing teeth. It’s extremely important for you to know that the longer you remain in dentures, the more your bone will atrophy.

A vicious cycle has begun.

The more your bones atrophy, the looser your dentures become and the worse your dentures fit. When your dentures no longer fit well, they slip, move around, and do not function properly. You’ll have to go in for a relining or replacement ...

Over and over again.

That cycle will continue as you keep losing more and more bone. Bones are kind of important, right?

Imagine chewing your food without a solid bone structure in your mouth.

Now imagine smiling without your jaw.

You cannot do either of those things when your bone has atrophied to the point that you have next to nothing left of it. (Yes. This really does happen to people!) You thought you were doing a good thing, a smart thing, when you purchased those dentures.

Instead, dentures can be pretty darn disappointing. Just because you are able to get dentures, it doesn’t mean that you should get dentures.

What Should You Do to Replace Your Back Teeth?

You need a solution that prevents further bone loss. You need a solution that actually encourages bone growth. You need a long-term solution that won’t require regular replacement.

So, you’ll need something that attaches directly to the bones like the natural root structure of the tooth. That’s the only way to encourage continued regeneration in those bone cells.

Do you know what you need?

You need our Nuvia dental implants.

Yep. We designed our implants with your quality of life at the forefront of our minds. We have made it our mission to guide every potential client as you search for the best possible solution to your missing tooth situation.

Our technology creates a digital map of your implants right down to the nanometer level! That is more precise than the size of a red blood cell. Your permanent set of nuvia dental implants will have an unsurpassed level of stabilization, leading to a longer-lasting implant than other dental implant providers.

What’s more, our commitment to precision also means that your teeth will appear much more natural looking than any partial dentures ever could. At the same time, you won’t have to worry about any speech issues because these implants will fit perfectly inside your mouth.

Your permanent new teeth from Nuvia are extremely lightweight and incredibly strong. The implants attach with pinpoint precision to your permanent prosthetic teeth, keeping them stable and secure unlike partial dentures.

Once we put your implants in their proper space, they are fused directly to your bone through a process of Osseointegration. Think of this like putting your mailbox post in cement and allowing it to completely set up. The precision of our implants allows the prosthetic to keep the implants stable while osseointegration occurs.

It’s this handy dandy process that makes it possible for you to eat soft foods right away. If you go with dentures, you’re going to be sucking your food through a straw or sipping it from a spoon for a few weeks.

NO LIQUID DIET!

And, it’s this process that encourages the natural stimulation of bone growth and prevents bone loss! The bone cells naturally adhere to the titanium and the action of chewing will continue to help regenerate those healthy bone cells.

In Conclusion …

Now you know you can get partial dentures to replace those back teeth, but you also know that you shouldn’t get partial dentures.

Nuvia dental implants will replace your back teeth and give you a permanent solution with a natural fit.
