View LocationMeet Dr. John Matos, Nuvia’s oral surgeon at the Long Island City, NY clinic.

About
Dr. John Matos is the oral surgeon at Nuvia Dental Implant Center in Long Island City, NY. He finished dental school at NYU in 1995 and his surgical training in 1999. In his words, he’s been learning ever since, because that part never ends.
What drew him to dentistry was the instant reward of the work. He likes seeing a problem and fixing it. To him, a patient’s problem isn’t something that holds them back. It’s something the team can work through so the patient can move on with life.
Dr. Matos joined Nuvia because he wants to make a difference. His goal is to change lives at scale, one patient at a time, without slowing down. From his first days on the team, he says it has felt like being welcomed into a new family, and he’s ready to jump in and welcome the next person.
He takes a lot of pride in where he places his implants. With permanent teeth in 24 hours, everything locks together in final materials right away. He says that gives him the control to get the result right for each patient.
This work hits close to home for him, too. Dr. Matos has done full arch treatment for his own in-laws. Now they eat, sit, and talk with no more pain. Their teeth aren’t even on their mind anymore. He says these cases are very predictable when they’re done right and the right team is involved.
Dr. Matos is married with two kids, one a freshman in college and the other a sophomore in high school. In his free time he loves to fish and drive fast cars. He also jokes that giving people brand new teeth is one of his favorite hobbies.

Sue Panayiotou is the CRNA and anesthesia provider at Nuvia Dental Implant Center in Long Island City, NY. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and has been working in anesthesia for 17 years.
Sue has also been a patient herself, so she knows what it’s like to feel anxious or scared before a procedure. She says that time on the other side has helped her grow, and it’s a big reason she treats every patient like family.
Sue chose Nuvia for the teamwork and the training. She loves the team in Long Island City and how they always put patients and safety first. What made her want to join was the chance to help people through the process of getting a new smile in 24 hours.
Permanent teeth in 24 hours is the part that gets her most excited. Patients don’t have to wait months for a result. They get permanent teeth in 24 hours, which is a short time compared to other places, and they walk out with a great smile.
If you’re nervous about coming in, Sue wants you to know that your safety comes first. She’s with you when you go to sleep and when you wake up. The whole time, she’s watching over you and keeping you safe so you have a great experience from start to finish.
Sue is first generation in the U.S., and her parents are from Cyprus. She and her son love to travel and make trips to Japan and Cyprus often. They’re both big sushi fans. They also go scuba diving and snorkeling together, make rock sculptures, and build Legos.
Dr. Ivana Petrovic Shah, DDS is the restorative dentist at Nuvia Dental Implant Center in Long Island City, NY. She first graduated from the University of Belgrade School of Dental Medicine in 2009. After moving to New York, she earned her DDS from the NYU College of Dentistry and finished her prosthodontics training there too.
Before NYU, she spent three years in a clinical research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Her work there focused on how patients felt about their own results and on using dental implants to restore function for cancer patients who needed surgery on their jaws.
Dentistry was a natural choice for Dr. Petrovic Shah. She grew up in a medical family. Her father was a dentist and her mom is a pediatrician, so medicine and dentistry came up at the dinner table all the time. Watching the impact her father had on his patients is what inspired her to follow the same path.
Dr. Petrovic Shah chose Nuvia because it pairs advanced technology with a process that’s built around the patient. One team works together from the first consult to the final smile. What excites her most is permanent teeth in 24 hours. Work that used to take months now happens in a day, so patients get their smile, their bite, and their confidence back much sooner.
If you’re nervous, she understands. Her advice is to come in and talk. She and the team will listen, answer every question, and walk you through each step so you feel at ease.
Dr. Petrovic Shah is originally from Serbia, but New York is home now. She’s married to a cancer surgeon, and they have a five-year-old daughter. As a family, they love to travel and experience new cultures. They’ve been all over the world, and making those memories together is one of her favorite things to do.
