Full mouth dental implants and specifically permanent teeth in 24 hours have revolutionized how we approach comprehensive dental restoration. Dental implants are not just another treatment option to replace missing teeth; they're the new standard of care. If you’re looking to replace missing teeth, here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Common Options to Replace Missing Teeth:

For individuals with very few missing teeth and generally good dental health, options such as single dental implants or dental bridges are fairly popular. However, options to replace 5 or more teeth may look a little different.

Here are some full-mouth solutions to replace missing teeth:

Full Mouth Dental Implants

In both a cultural and a practical sense, when it comes to replacing missing teeth, dental implants are the standard of care. A dental implant refers to a medical device that looks like a small screw and is placed in the jawbone. For full mouth dental implants, 4 or more of these screws, or posts are placed in the jaw and act as anchors for a beautifully crafted set of fake teeth.

Unlike dentures and snap in dentures, full mouth dental implants are a permanent solution to replace missing teeth that aren’t taken out.

Full mouth dental implants come with a host of benefits including stability that gives you the freedom to eat all the foods you want, a permanent solution that eliminates some of the drawbacks of dentures, and they give you a beautiful smile you can feel confident with!

Dentures

Dentures are fake teeth made of hard plastic that rest on the gums and cover the entire top part (or palate) of the mouth. Unlike dental implants, they are removable. Patients often report that their dentures feel loose and make it difficult to eat or laugh, and because they cover the roof of the mouth, their sense of taste is not as strong.

Snap in Dentures

Snap in dentures also use dental implants; however, they are attached to a piece that allows a denture to snap on to them. The purpose is to provide more stability than a traditional denture has.

This option requires frequent maintenance and would not be considered a permanent solution to missing teeth.

Advantages of Full Mouth Dental Implants

When it comes to replacing an entire set of teeth, full mouth dental implants are a game-changer. Why? For starters, they're as close as you're going to get to having your natural teeth back. They are anchored right into your jawbone, giving you great stability. You can bite into an apple, chew steak, or laugh out loud without worrying about your teeth slipping or sliding around.

Not only do dental implants feel more natural than alternative methods to replace missing teeth, they look great too. You get to design your new smile at Nuvia and work with the clinical team to choose the shape, color, and size, so you end up with the smile you’ve always wanted. Plus, they're a long-term investment in your oral health. Unlike dentures, which can accelerate bone loss over time, dental implants stimulate your jawbone, keeping it healthy and intact.

But what I really love about full mouth dental implants is the transformation they bring. I've seen patients walk in with the weight of the world on their shoulders, embarrassed by their missing teeth, and walk out with a newfound confidence. It's not just about aesthetics; it's about restoring function and improving quality of life. If you're looking for a durable, reliable, and natural-looking solution to replace all your teeth, full mouth dental implants are the way to go. Trust me, your smile (and your jawbone) will thank you.

Traditional dental implants offer a lot of advantages; however the process of getting dental implants the traditional way can be a major undertaking. At Nuvia, the process to replace missing teeth has been revolutionized. It no longer takes up to 10+ months to get your permanent teeth, Nuvia places your final, permanent teeth 24 hours after your dental implant surgery.

What to Consider When Getting Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth

If you are looking to replace missing teeth, there are a few items to consider and consult with your dental provider about. One of these items is bone loss.

Bone Loss

Our jaws are pretty fascinating. The bone that holds our teeth in place isn't something we're born with. It develops as we grow, right alongside our teeth. This means if you lose a tooth later in life, the bone that was its buddy doesn't just stick around unchanged. It begins to change shape, lose volume, and even its quality can dip.

Think of it like this: our entire skeleton is in a constant state of remodeling. The upper and lower jaw; however, change much quicker, especially when teeth that used to be there, are no longer there. Without the stimulation from a tooth, the jawbone can start to shrink away – a bit like if you stop exercising, your muscles get smaller. This is referred to as bone loss.

The state of your jaw bone is a very important consideration when determining next steps to replace your missing teeth. If you aren’t sure what your bone health is like, take this 60 second quiz to see if you may be eligible for dental implants.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is the process of guiding the body to regenerate bone in places it's taken a step back, when needed. However, it is not an essential step or a priority tool for helping someone restore their smile. Providers at Nuvia are experienced in using methods to place reliable implants without requiring bone grafting to be done. In some minor instances, I will still use bone grafting, but at Nuvia we don’t rely on it.

Zygomatic Dental Implants: Used to Replace Missing Teeth with Little Jaw Bone

Zygomatic dental implants are a variation of dental implants that are anchored in the cheekbone, or Zygoma bone. They are used in more extreme cases of bone loss or poor bone quality on the upper jaw.

These implants are essentially much longer versions of standard implants because they need to reach up to the cheekbone. They aren’t used as often as standard versions and they are only used on the upper jaw where the cheekbone is accessible.

Just as other dental implants, zygomatic dental implants enjoy the same high success rate. In my experience, these types of implants can be more challenging technically due to where the cheekbone is positioned in relation to the gum tissue. The jawbone, where regular dental implants are placed, is right under the gum tissue where the cheekbone is less accessible and up higher in the skeleton.

Although zygomatic dental implants may involve a more in-depth initial treatment, Nuvia’s skilled surgeons are equipped with extensive experience as dental implants are all we do at Nuvia, day in and day out. Though they aren’t required and placed as often as standard implants are, zygomatic implants are a common procedure to us.
