Dental Implant Recovery Plan
Each patient is different and may require a customized dental implant recovery plan. Be assured that the team at Nuvia will provide you with care specific to your needs.
That being said, here is what you’ll likely experience during your recovery:
First 24 Hours: Permanent Teeth in 24 Hours
At Nuvia, you’ll receive your final, permanent teeth 24 hours after your dental implant procedure.
Traditional methods of getting dental implants may have patients wearing temporary teeth for up to 10+ months while the permanent ones are created. You don’t have to wait for your new smile at Nuvia.
After your procedure, you’ll be sent home. During this time many patients sleep off the anesthesia and generally relax. Your provider will have provided you with recommendations for managing any discomforts when the numbing wears off as well as a prescription for medication.
When you come back the next day for your permanent, zirconia teeth, you may have experienced some swelling or some bruising. This is completely normal and usually peaks around 2-3 days after the procedure.
One great benefit of getting your permanent teeth in 24 hours is that you can begin using them on a soft-food diet right away!
Your care team will give you plenty of resources so you know what food you can eat during this period. A good rule of thumb is anything that can be cut with a plastic fork.
2 Weeks Post-Op
By two weeks, most patients experience significant improvements in discomfort and swelling.
Many patients are able to resume their daily activities with minimal disruption at this point. The soft-food diet that is recommended by your care team should still be followed at this point. At the 4 month mark is typically when patients are cleared to eat whatever their heart desires.
If you have concerns about your smile or your dental implant recovery at this point, your Nuvia care team is ready and eager to help. Don’t hesitate to get in touch.
4 Months Post-Op
At the 4 month mark of your dental implant recovery, you’ll have a quick check-in to see how your dental implants are healing and address any concerns you may have.
This is also when patients graduate from a soft-food diet and can begin eating whatever they’d like.
After months of healing, the swelling in your gums should have subsided and returned to their normal state. Not all patients, but some, experience a slight gap between their gums and their new teeth. While this is not guaranteed, it also is not unexpected.
This should not be a cause of concern at all. At your 4 month appointment, your Nuvia team will be able to get this taken care of for you.
Traditional methods might still have patients waiting for their permanent teeth at this point, dealing with temporary solutions that can be uncomfortable and inconvenient. Nuvia patients, however, are well-adjusted to their permanent teeth by this time, having avoided the hassle of temporary dentures.
