Dental implant patient, Cassie shares both the unexpected AND expected drawbacks of dental implants in her honest review of what she has and hasn’t loved about the dental implant process.
If you have missing or failing teeth, you don’t want to miss this first-hand experience and advice from someone who’s had their Nuvia teeth for a year.
Cassie’s Drawbacks of Dental Implants
Here are a few of the drawbacks of dental implants that Cassie ran into while getting her new teeth. Don’t miss what she ranks her #1 drawback!
Drawback #3 - Soft Food Diet
The first of the three drawbacks of dental implants that Cassie lists is the soft food diet. “For the first four months, yes, we do have to eat soft foods”.
Although this was a downside for her, she is quick to add “but it wasn’t that bad… the four months just fly by…And the assortment of soft foods we can eat - you’d be surprised - it’s amazing”.
Unexpectedly, the soft food diet led to some weight loss. Although not all patients experience this, some see it as a benefit, including Cassie.
Other methods of providing dental implants may necessitate a liquid-only diet. While the soft food diet may limit patients to eating what they can cut with a plastic fork, it allows for a much greater variety of foods that a liquid-only diet couldn’t include.
Drawback #2 - Overcoming Speech Changes
It’s not uncommon for some people to experience some minor and temporary challenges with their speech after getting dental implants.
This is because your mouth and brain need to adjust to a brand new set of teeth that weren’t there just hours before.
Cassie shares how she had a bit of a lisp at the beginning of the adjustment period, “After the surgery, I had a little bit of a lisp… It’s not as noticeable anymore because your body assimilates the implants and you just learn how to speak again before you know it. It’s very quick”.
Patients who experience some speech issues find that the SML MKR club on Facebook is a great resource. In this group, other dental implant patients often share tips and sentences to practice that can help speech issues resolve faster.

Drawback #1 - The Cost
As Cassie was exploring her options and visiting different dentists to get information on dental implants, she unexpectedly experienced a third drawback of dental implants - the cost.
Cassie describes one of the more frustrating parts of this was that she couldn’t get a straightforward answer on how much dental implants would cost from the dentists she was visiting.
It wasn’t until she found Nuvia that she was given the Dental Implant Cost Guide that provided information on factors that impact cost. It also answered questions related to insurance and finance plans that can make dental implants more affordable.
Another valuable section of the cost guide compares the cost of dental implants to other temporary solutions to missing teeth that wouldn’t involve surgery, but also may cost more in the long run.
“Nobody could give me a straight answer on how much it would cost to do this. It was very frustrating ”.
“When I went to Nuvia, they gave me this great cost guide that broke it down”.

What Cassie Loved About Getting Dental Implants
Although there were a few drawbacks of dental implants for Cassie, she found they were far outweighed by what she loved about getting new teeth from Nuvia.

Cassie was no stranger to dental offices as she set out to find the right one to restore her smile.
Unfortunately, not every visit was the most comfortable experience. It wasn’t until she found Nuvia that she felt she had found a team that had her best interests at heart.
“When I walked into Nuvia, the team was just so welcoming, so nice, so team Cassie. And the surgeons and the CRNAs, and your team in the operating room - you are not alone!”
Each patient at Nuvia has a dedicated surgeon, CRNA, and restorative dentist along with a care team working to help them feel comfortable as they get their new smile. Each of these individuals helps patients get dental implants day in and day out. Patients should know they’re in good hands.
Cassie sums up her experience with the actual procedure as, “It was such an amazing, peaceful experience”.
Permanent Teeth in 24 Hours
“From surgery to teeth, 24 hours. It was amazing”.
After learning about traditional methods of doing dental implants, Cassie was not enthused to hear that it may take up to 10+ months to get her permanent teeth.
One thing she loved about getting dental implants at Nuvia was that she could get her permanent teeth 24 hours after her dental implants were placed.
She found that this reduced stress, and allowed her to have a new, confident smile in time for her wedding.
Health, Confidence, and Living Her Best Life
Cassie’s “best for last” benefit of dental implants is how they have impacted her daily life. She shares:
“I am pain free. I am healthier, my husband and I, we go to the gym. We go for walks. We go travel. I am a lot more confident in my stance”.
